Datatype Problem
I am new to SQL Server and have migrated an Access DB to SQL Server
I can connect to the database, pull content, etc but a strange thing happen
when I use the "text" datatype. I have a table called "tbl_news
where a field is called "news_story" this is a large text block that my clien
can cut and paste text from MS word. Since it needs to hold large amounts ot tex
I used the MEMO field-type in Access. When I used the TEXT field in SQL serve
some weird stuff happens. When I query the record in a recordset and display
the results on a standard ASP page - one or another fields will not print out
No matter what I try - it seems that one field won't display and there is no rhyme or reason.
When I look in the DB I see the DATA but it wont print on the screen like response.write rs("news_story"
What would cause a field not to print? somewhat hap-hazardly
SHould I use the text datatype? For ex. when I use vchar it doesnt happen. But my tex
gets truncated. Please Help - I am ready to pull my hair ouTo read from TEXT column you should use READTEXT statement,
but you can try to play with SET TEXTSIZE.
Please read "Retrieving ntext, text, or image Values" topics in BOL.

DataDir empty
Hi,
The DataDir content has been removed on my production server and I lost all my cubes.
Any ideas to explain this issue ? Do i only need to recreate my cubes or this directory contains other files necessary to run SS2005 ?
Cheers, JL
If you restart the SSAS service with an empty DataDir it will add all the required system files and startup with no databases installed. Then you will either need to redeploy your project and reprocess, or restore a backup.|||furmangg,
Thanks for your reply ; it was due to a disk issue but things are ok now.
Cheers, JL.

Database translation to japanese
i need to translate one english data table content to japanese language. I have one table one DB called A and i need to table data to be translated to japanese and stored in table into another DB called B.
i just need to know tht is it posssible to do this. if yes plz give me some hint on that.
Thanks,
vimalHi,
Of course, to do this accurately, you'll need a human translator or translators to rewrite the English text in Japanese. You'll need to make sure that the Japanese version of the table has text fields of a data type that can hold Japanese language data (e.g. nvarchar) and that those fields use a Japanese collation if that is appropriate.
