Datatype problem?

Hello
We ahve a problem with datatypes. I the cube whe have 2 mesasures (Item_Sold and Sales). Item_sold is Numeric datatype and Sales is Currency. In the virtual cube whe divide the to in to a average price (Sales/Item_sold).
We user Excel show the cube.
For integer numbers we get no problem but for item_sold with decimal values (like 1,43) the division get currupt. It seems that it only devide the integer so average measures of:
Item_sold=2,5
Sales=500
...will be 250 (500/2). And if the item_sold is smaller than 1 (for units smaller than 1 kilo) the average value will even more strange.

I think that the datatyp is the error. What datatyp shall i use?

I am also getting this strange problem

What is happening is that when something is being divided by 0.XX its producing those wrong figures where decimal is at a wrong place. But if we divide the numerator and denominator by 100, we get the correct figures.

Something *100 / 0.XX *100 = good

Something / 0.XX = wrong

|||

OK,

I found the solution. Its related to data types. Make sure that both the denominator and the numenator are of same data type (may be numberic)

It solved my problem

DataSource Renaming

How do you check to find a data source....We were testing a cube, decided that we wanted to change the names of the dimensions, datasources, etc.

I thought I had gone though each data source, dimension, data source view, that had a reference to datasource view "A" and changed it to reference "B". I did this by going into the view code and finding each reference to "A" and replacing it with "B". However, now when I try to process a dimension, I get the following error message:

The 'DataSourceView' with 'ID' = 'A' doesn't exist in the collection.

Well, I didn't want it to exist because I thought I had changed it to reference "B". Every time I try to go in to the view code section to see if I missed a reference to "A", it says that it can't find a "A".

I was just wondering if there is another way that I could go about finding if I have truly changed all references from "A" to "B"

Every object in SSAS has a name and ID propety. You can change the name freely, but the ID is not meant to be changed as the ID can be used all over the place internally. The Id's are unique within their object type, but not within the database, so doing a straight search and replace in the script can create problems.

If you haven't already tried this, Try connecting to the server, right clicking on the database and getting it to script the whole database as an alter script and then search through for datasource "A".

DataMining problems

Hello Experts,

I’ve got a logical problem. I’m just a newbie in this theme.

I build a cube with Analysis Services. It works and I can brows the cube.

For Example this could be a possible result:

Color

RedBlueBlackYellow

Auto brand

Opel12

VW214

Mercedes1122

The count shows us how much cars were stolen.

Now I try to build a Data Mining structure that shows me the behavior between the auto brand and the color. (To build the report I used Excel 2007 and the Data Mining AddIn)

After build the Mining Structure the Colum name are 1, 2 or 4 (just the counts).

To search for a better solution I tried to build the report manual. (Now it looked like that)

Auto BrandCollorstolen

OpelRedno

OpelBlueyes

OpelBlackyes

OpelYellowno

VWRedyes

VWBlueyes

VWBlackno

VWYellowyes

MercedesRedyes

MercedesBlueyes

MercedesBlackyes

MercedesYellowyes

Now the Column names are correct and the Data Mining structure is more understandable.

But the second report you can’t build with a cube, because the Measures were just numeric.

My Questions:

- Where is my error?

- How do you build a Data Mining?

- Is there somewhere a tutorial could help me (I just founded tutorials that explains the different works of the different Data Mining Models)

- How would you build this problem in a Mining Structure?

Hope I don’t forget some information and hear you soon

Yours sincerely,

Alex

Please visit our portal site ssdm.com. You can find tutorials, tips and tricks as well as samples there.

As to your problem, it depends on what information you wish to analyze. For example, you can build a data mining model using some classification algorithms (such as decision trees and neural network). If you mark stolen as predictable, you can use your model to predict the probability that some specific type of car got stolen. You can also train a clustering model to assist in exploring your data.

Thanks,

Datamining a Olap Cube

I'm new to datamining and have gather some knowledge by following the tutorial that comes with sql server 2005.
I have following created a association mining model and tested it by using various DMX queries. I works quite satisfactory.

But I would like to use this mining model on a cube. Ie a calculated measure that would show top 1 recommendation for my customer portfolio.
My knowlede reaches to the extent that you need to feed data by using the OpenQuery or OpenRowset queries.
I would like to "stick" my model to the cube on some way and the extract values in the same manner as filtering criterias in stead of manually generating DMX queries.

I have googled a bit and searched MSDN without luck. Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong.

Is this possible?

Could this help?

It presents an example of how to create a custom action containing a data mining prediction. Not really a calculated measure, but still a way to associate a prediction result with an cube cell.

Alternately, you could try this more complex approach:

- have your transaction data in the same cube

- build an OLAP mining model based on the cube

- use the MDXPredict MDX function to retrieve predictions from a mining model inside the calculated measure

Database 'XXX' does not exist

Hi.
I'm trying to make a asp.net page to connect to a olap cube.
When i trying to connect to my Analysis Server I receive the error:
Database 'XXX' does not exist.
My config is
-SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition SP3
-Analysis Services SP3
-MDAC 2.8
i already added <identity impersonate ="true" /> to web.config
My connection string is "Provider=MSOLAP.2;Data
Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=XXX;"
Thanksare you sure that the 'XXX' database exits?
what are the roles of this cube?
what is the authentication you use?
Message posted via http://www.droptable.com|||i'm sure that my database exists because i can use the MDX application (the
basic example provided with the installation of Analysis Services) to
execute queries.
I would like to succeed in querying the basic example of olap cube FoodMart
2000 in asp.net.
I use anonymous authentification

2-hop problem. The reason why the database might not exist is that you are
coming in anonymously and the NT Anonymous account might not have access to
the database.
