Dataset Run finds 24 results, Preview displays 1 results

Hello All,
I am a newbie here coming from a Crystal development background and
intermediate skills with SQL. I seem to have various issues creating
all sorts of RS reports. I'm trying to start with "more modest"
reports to ease myself into the groove of using RS, but some things
that seem simple stump me.
I have a simple query that brings back 24 results. I used the wizard
to create a simple layout using 1 group (I expect 12 "subsections" by
using this group) with the details displayed under each group.
For whatever odd reason, even tho' running the query finds the 24
results, the Preview shows 1 result. I even removed the group and ran
all the details (tried refreshing) and only 1 result again.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance

It sounds kind-of like your group had the Property 'Page break at end'
set. Also, make sure you don't have a filter set. Hope this helps.

what you do is create a new project->report and place the same query and see
whether you get the same results. ofcourse place a table control and just
drag and drop a couple of fields and see whether you get 24 rows.?

If you do this you will see only one record because you did not put either a
table or list control on the canvas first.

Not sure how to reply to ALL here... thank you ALL for your help.
I could not find evidence that I selected pulling the "first" value in
the expression
I did not populate my report on an "empty canvas" as I have been using
the Report Wizard for now until I become more acclimated.
I DID try and recreate my report from scratch and did not use the
group feature in the Report Wizard and *got the desired results*. I
didn't even set up the parameter and magically somehow the report
picked it up on its own (I've has issues with other reports that even
forcefully adding the parameters to the report still doesn't seem to
"use" them). So I added the group after I had all the details
displayed and so far it works, the output looks a little different
creating the group after you create the report vs creating the group
in the wizard, but I can't be picky at this point. 280+ report left
to convert!
Thank you all very much for your ideas... I wish I understood better
how to fix the problem vs starting over, but if that is what works
then so be it.
Thanks again
-Colleen|||One point to be aware of when testing.
When you preview the report in development it will cache the data and reuse
that unless a parameter value changes. This can cause you to see something
different in preview versus deployment. If you look at where your rdl files
are you will see a .data file. This file can be deleted to force it to hit
the server for the data. Or, if your report has a parameter then just pick a
different value.
Just a heads up.

DataMining problems

Hello Experts,

I’ve got a logical problem. I’m just a newbie in this theme.

I build a cube with Analysis Services. It works and I can brows the cube.

For Example this could be a possible result:

Color

RedBlueBlackYellow

Auto brand

Opel12

VW214

Mercedes1122

The count shows us how much cars were stolen.

Now I try to build a Data Mining structure that shows me the behavior between the auto brand and the color. (To build the report I used Excel 2007 and the Data Mining AddIn)

After build the Mining Structure the Colum name are 1, 2 or 4 (just the counts).

To search for a better solution I tried to build the report manual. (Now it looked like that)

Auto BrandCollorstolen

OpelRedno

OpelBlueyes

OpelBlackyes

OpelYellowno

VWRedyes

VWBlueyes

VWBlackno

VWYellowyes

MercedesRedyes

MercedesBlueyes

MercedesBlackyes

MercedesYellowyes

Now the Column names are correct and the Data Mining structure is more understandable.

But the second report you can’t build with a cube, because the Measures were just numeric.

My Questions:

- Where is my error?

- How do you build a Data Mining?

- Is there somewhere a tutorial could help me (I just founded tutorials that explains the different works of the different Data Mining Models)

- How would you build this problem in a Mining Structure?

Hope I don’t forget some information and hear you soon

Yours sincerely,

Alex

Please visit our portal site ssdm.com. You can find tutorials, tips and tricks as well as samples there.

As to your problem, it depends on what information you wish to analyze. For example, you can build a data mining model using some classification algorithms (such as decision trees and neural network). If you mark stolen as predictable, you can use your model to predict the probability that some specific type of car got stolen. You can also train a clustering model to assist in exploring your data.

Thanks,

Databases on different storage

I am newbie in SQL server and have one, maybe dumb question.
I have SQL2000 cluster on Windows 2003 with shared storage on SAN.
Cluster operates with one database only.
I need to temporary attach second database to SQL server, but problem is
that I do not have enought free space on shared storage to place both
databases. It is possible to attach another database in cluster
environment from local one node drive ? No fail-over needed. Problem is
that SQL server in cluster see only shared drives. It should look like
one database in cluster environment and one in not.
Maybe with two instances or virtual servers ?
Thanx.
Short answer is no.
Longer explanation is that in a cluster, all SQL data files must be on a
cluster disk resource that the SQL server is dependant on. YOu cannot use
local storage in a SQL 2000 cluster implementation.

|||Hello.
It may be possible to use a mount point. I've done this with two shared physical disk resources that were in the same resource group. That is: I created a folder in a formatted partition on physical disk 1 (let's call it "I:\NDF") and mounted a formatted partition from physical disk 2 on I:\NDF.
I was able to create SQL server data files on the mounted volume, even though the physical disk resource (2) was not in the SQL server resource dependancy list. Apparently SQL server doesn't know that the filesystem has a mount point, but why would it care?
Now, I'm not sure if it will work with a "local" disk, but you may try if you are feeling adventurous. Also, this was on Win2KAS, not 2.003K
Interestingly, and despite warnings against doing this (warnings which I did not read until after it had been operational in a production environment for months), the SQL server worked fine and even went through failovers without a hitch.
It will definitely not survive a failover if you use a local disk, however.
Anyway, I would not normally "suggest" doing this, because it is not supported, but it may be a viable option if you just need a few rows out of a table somewhere.
